Biarritz, France
What a special, special place. My mom grew up vising Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz frequently to connect with family and friends in the South West of France (Basque region), and I am so grateful that she has maintained these family connections over the years! My family has visited Biarritz together in the past, and this year was especially nice because it was my first stop after spending my five weeks in Paris. Finally… some time to relax on the beach after taking courses and living a busy lifestyle in the city was much needed. :)
I love Biarritz because the majority of visitors here are either French or from neighboring European countries. Biarritz is known for its gorgeous beaches, surfing, and a sophisticated touch. Once, I read an article describing Biarritz as a combination of the surfing vibes in Malibu and the elegance of the Hamptons, and I think this perfectly captures Biarritz. The town has an amazing mix of posh and laid-back feel, because of the variety of visitors on holiday and surfers in town.
My great-aunt has the cutest apartment a few minutes walking to the beach and town, so each day we spent time either at the beach, cooking at her apartment, or exploring the downtown. I wish I could have spent more time here… it was a favorite spot over the course of our trip visiting family!
To Eat & Drink:
We mostly ate at home in Biarritz, but if I have one recommendation it is Ble Noir, a casual but delicious Crêperie! Go for sunset and enjoy views with delicious savory crepes followed by sweet crepes or sorbet.
Bali Bowls: delicious açaí bowls/smoothies/juice/matcha, perfect pre or post beach day.
To Do:
La Grande Plage
Walks in town
Surf lessons
Sunset drinks/dessert at restaurants on the Grande Plage
Favorite Shopping:
Jean-Vier for the best dish towels, tablecloths, and homewear. We stock up every time we come.
64 is a classique! Have loved their clothing and accessories since I was little.
Galeries Lafayette has a big store in town if you have extra time for all the fav French brands.
Many small boutiques in town sell handmade jewelry, accessories, swimwear, and espadrille sandals! All worth checking out to window shop or treat yourself :)
A short and sweet post for one of my all-time favorite vacation destinations, à bientôt Biarritz!
xoxo,
Josie
