First Few Weeks in Boston

Recent activities, eats, and life in Boston <33

I spent the last few weeks settling into my new home for the next four years for University… HELLO BOSTON! So far, I love it here. My classes have kicked into full gear, so I am back into the routine of balancing classes, homework, and meeting new people. One thing that I already love is how much I walk everywhere! I really wanted to go to a school in an urban environment because cities have so much to do, I can walk anywhere I want, and I am surrounded by culture. I currently live in the Back Bay area, and can easily walk to and from Newbury Street, the Boston Public Garden/Boston Common, Fenway Park, and to the Charles River Esplanade. 10k+ steps/day club!

During my first few weeks, the weather remained warm and I enjoyed the last bits of summer fashion. I know that the transition to experiencing real seasons and snow will definitely bring a shock, coming from a California girl who hardly sees weather below 50 degrees. I’ll definitely check back here for a winter update!

Something I looked forward to before moving to Boston was to experience a true East Coast fall. And so far, fall in Boston lives up to the hype! The leaves are starting to change colors, and every day the air feels a bit more crisp and cool. Boston has so much going on, especially during the back-to-school season and the start of fall. I can’t wait to document my life in a new city!

Without further ado, I present my September-October recap, enjoy :))

Apple picking at Boston Hill Farm. Two Sundays ago, I went apple picking with a group of friends at Boston Hill Farm in North Andover. We had the best time! The foliage on the drive was beautiful, and we loved the farm itself. I came back from our excursion with a bag of the most delicious crisp apples, apple pie, and cider donuts. Yum!

Monday morning podcast walk through the Boston Public Garden. Ambiance and vibes=10/10 always.

Eating lots of delicious Italian food in the North End- Trattoria Il Panino, Mare, Benevento’s, Strega. Benevento’s was my favorite! Also Mike’s Pastry, Modern Pastry, and Bova’s Bakery for desserts… (P.S. Bova’s stays open 24 hours)

I’m in the process of finding my favorite cafes, coffee shops, and matcha in Boston! So far, my favorites include Tatte, Thinking Cup, Pavement, and Blue Bottle. (Pavement’s matcha tastes too sweet but the bagel sandwiches always hit the spot)

Architecture class sketches at Trinity Church, Museum day at the MFA and using the perks of a student ID to my full advantage (free general admission!!!), Walking through Eataly at least two times a week (it’s on my way home from campus, and I can never resist), Red Sox games at Fenway :).

Goals for the rest of October and November:

  • Find a go-to burrito spot (I’ve had El Jefe’s Taqueria but still need to try more places)

  • I want to decide what North End bakery I like best. This seems to be quite the debate for Boston locals and students. I have tried Mike’s Pastry, Modern Pastry, and Bova’s for cannolis, but have yet to choose a favorite... ahhhh!

    • My current order at each place: Mike’s- Nutella cannoli or chocolate chip cannoli, Modern- chocolate chip cannoli and carrot cake, Bova’s- cannolis, chocolate covered strawberries, or the homemade Milano cookies

  • Explore Beacon Hill

  • Have a picnic at the Boston Common

  • Eat dinner in the Seaport area (Bartaco is on my list to try)

  • Go to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

xoxo,
